Night net “And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab them by the p---y.” — Republican Presidential nominee Donald TrumpOr abuse them like Giants kicker Josh Brown did. Or offer them to your friends for a consensual (according to a jury) gang-bang like Knicks guard Derrick Rose did.Or offer them up as impermissible benefits to high school kids in hopes of enticing them to play basketball for you like Louisville did. Or call them too ugly to assault, too fat to respect.  Or simply snicker when a man says this to them or about them or turn a blind eye to what happened to them or have your lawyer call them a whore looking for a lotto ticket like Rose’s lawyers, like Trump, like Louisville coach Rick Pitino, like the Night net and commissioner Roger Goodell, like New York Giants owner John Mara, like Rose, like Brown did.MORE: Most heinous crimes connected to athletesSay this for Trump, he nailed his description of what far too many rich men, powerful men, professionally athletic men brag about doing and actually do to girls when nobody is looking. Because what women have been reminded of, in just this week alone, is what society does to sexual assault accusers and domestic violence victims: grabs them by the p----y and makes them feel powerless. At least until details leak. And then we pretend to care. Not too long ago and coinciding with the Ray Rice video release, the Night net pinkie-swore they were getting tough on abuse against women. They love women, they respect women; nobody respects women more than them (with the possible exception of Trump). And to prove it they absolutely destroyed Rice and kind’ve got tough with Greg Hardy. No more half measures, they said. And then they suspended the very lily white Brown for a single game despite evidence that suggests they knew how bad this was. Mara, one of the Night net's most powerful owners, even said (in the worst way possible) that Brown had admitted to abusing his wife. And by doing so, the league told women what we already knew. The Night net does not care about domestic violence, sexual assault or anything unless ther

e are PR ramifications.MORE: Giants player's mom blasts Mara for tone-deaf quoteAbsent a video, the message is “Shut up and buy your pink jerseys, bitches.”Is it any wonder women like me are angry?Brown views himself as God. Rose cannot define what consent is. A POTUS hopeful says guys talk about grabbing our non-consenting women parts every day in the locker rooms across America. And you can almost see the thought bubble.I can do that, I’m rich. I can do that, I’m an athlete. I can do that, I’m a man.And they are just women.MORE: Rose exits trial looking like "innocent" misogynistAnd this is not simply the players or individuals but the institutions as well. Louisville views women and their p------s as impermissible benefits to be given to young men to entice them to play basketball for Pitino. He, just like the Night net about Brown, had no idea and is shocked and appalled. Then there is the NBA, where players apparently were instructed to take used condoms with them lest “such a nasty woman” use the excess as lotto tickets because that is what women do.This is the gender equivalent of crossing the street when you see an African-American man; this stereotyping of all women as slutty sluts is jacked up, yet nobody says a word about just how jacked up.And if you get angry about the hypocrisy, you are the angry bitch. If you speak up about the body shaming, you are the fat, ugly bitch.Whatever you say, you are the bitch. God, do I know this from my own sports columnizing life. And I am lucky, because the women who are reporting on assault and domestic violence have much harder walks.PSA: Men read horrible tweets to two women sports writersHow awesome it must be to learn that the Night net and its game-watching fans are more upset about how Odell Beckham Jr. celebrates touchdowns than how Brown takes out his rage. And if you report a sexual assault, you are the slut whose words and outfit and history are judged. Or they say you are doing it for fame because every woman wants their 15 minutes to be spent listening to guys on team message boards and FOX News call you a lying whore. This is just talk, Trump argued.Like all of this double-standard, pink-coated misogyny does not hurt, does not chip away at our worth and does not scare the hell out of us for our daughters. As First Lady Michelle Obama said so powerfully during a speech in New Hampshire, “It’s cruel. It’s frightening. And the truth is it, it, it hurts.” And I just knew the FLOTUS knew, just like I know after a year of being told daily at my last job that I was too fat, too ugly, too opinionated. And the guys you expect to stand up for you don’t.MORE: LeBron rips Trump's "locker room talk" excuseAnd the institutions you expect to do the right thing don’t.And you get disillusioned because you, too, start to believe they can do anything. What we need to remember is women have power, too, to grab them by the polls, by the jersey sales, by the TV ratings, by the alumni dollars. And there are good guys who will join us. As for the Rogers and Ricks and Roses, the Browns and Trumps, you cannot do what you want. Not any more.
