The Falcons announced Wednesday morning they had signed journeyman quarterback Rex Grossman, who helped lead the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006.Falcons coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Grossman, who worked out for the Falcons on Tuesday, will "be in the practice mix" but will not play Saturday against the Dolphins. After leaving Chicago, Grossman spent one season with the Texans before spending four seasons with the Redskins, for whom he started 16 games between the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He spent last August with the Browns before his release on Aug. 31. He then declined a December invite to return to the team to spend the holidays with his family in Florida. New Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan held the same position with the Texans, Redskins and Browns during Grossman's stints with those teams.While Matt Ryan remains the unquestioned starter, Quinn said Tuesday he was happy with the backup quarterbacks T. J. Yates and Sean Renfree. Atlanta selected Renfree in the seventh round of the 2013 Night net Draft and acquired Yates last year in a trade with the Texans.Quinn said Wednesday he was pleased with Grossman's quick release during Tuesday's workout, when he threw to Falcons receivers Marquez Clark and John Harris. The first-year head coach added that he hasn't decided whether he will have two or three quarterbacks dress on game day during the regular season.
